The ZuZu Kim label is designed by Christina “ZuZu” Kim, a self-taught classical pianist who started her creative odyssey by producing strikingly romantic, comfortable clothing for her piano performances. This inspired her to create the ZuZu Kim ready-to-wear brand, which is the result of over a year of contemplation, observation and research.
Christina's brand embraces the creative forces of fashion and music. She is currently a student at the Juilliard School, studying piano repertoire weekly. The daughter of the former South Korean Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Christina was raised around the world. She studied fashion design and fiber at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and started her own atelier during school and thereafter. She worked with private clientele, local boutiques, dressed musicians, and designed clothing for album covers. Soon after, she was recruited by Phoebe Couture and Mary McFadden in New York. Christina is curious and passionate about learning; she set out to move to the fashion capital to deepen her knowledge and skills. She was appointed head designer within one year.
Christina is a perfectionist and emphasizes impeccable fit, and the finest of fabrications. She regards draping as an art form akin to that as a painter would a canvas. She revels in creating lines of the garment that tastefully and creatively accentuate the female form, and drapes each garment she designs. Christina’s unique background, sensitivity towards different cultures, as well as her passion for music brings a unique perspective to her design sensibility.
